Clinical Info

The detection and monitoring of BK viral loads is indicated in renal transplant recipients at risk for BK allograft nephropathy, and occasionally in other immunocompromised patients. BK virus is associated with renal allograft nephropathy, hemorrhagic cystitis, ureteral stenosis and other urinary tract diseases. This test is used to monitor the amount of virus present in the plasma of the patient.
