Special Info

Campylobacter culture is a lab only order test. Antigen testing is available as well and is performed as part of the battery for routine stool cultures (order code STCUL). Testing not indicated on patients hospitalized > 3 days If culture is positive, identification will be performed at an additional charge. Identification CPT codes that may apply include: 87077, 87153. Antimicrobial susceptibilities are performed when requested, and the following CPT codes may apply: 87181, 87184.

Clinical Info

Methods are for recovery of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli, the species most commonly associated with gastroenteritis. Contact the laboratory to request susceptibility testing (requires sending to specialty laboratory for agar dilution).
