Special Info

Collect specimen after an overnight fast. Whole blood will be rejected. Specimens not protected from light, or icteric specimens are unacceptable. This test is New York DOH approved.

Clinical Info

Use for nutritional assessment of vitamin B6. The biologically active form of vitamin B6, pyridoxal 5-phosphate, is measured in this assay. Pyridoxal 5-phosphate measured in a specimen collected following an 8 hour or overnight fast accurately indicates vitamin B6 nutritional status. Non-fasting specimen concentration reflects recent vitamin intake.
