Special Info

Patient preparation: discontinue coumadin therapy for one week prior to collection. 3.2% sodium citrate is the preferred anticoagulant recommended by CLSI.

Clinical Info

For use in the evaluation of the hypercoagulable state due to congenital or acquired protein S deficiency. This is an immunologic assay which detects the total amount of Protein S in plasma (protein S bound to C4b binding protein and free protein S). Only the free protein is functional as a cofactor to protein C.
