JC polyoma virus is the cause of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a demyelinating neurologic disease of immunocompromised patients and patients on certain medications. This test detects and quantifies JCV in CSF, and detection of the virus in CSF may indicate infection. Reportable range is 50 to 50,000,000 IU/mL (1.70 to 7.70 Log IU/mL).
