Special Info

Patient preparation: Discontinue coumadin for 2 weeks prior to collection; discontinue heparin for 2 days prior to collection. 3.2% sodium citrate is the preferred anticoagulant recommended by NCCLS. Do not use needles <23 gauge. Do not leave the tourniquet on for an extended period of time before drawing the sample. Draw a discard tube (non-additive or light blue) before collecting the prekallikrein specimen. Discard the first tube.
