Clinical Info

The quantitative detection of calprotectin is an in vitro diagnostic test to aid in the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory findings. Fecal calprotectin is an indicator of neutrophils in the stool and is not specific for IBD. Elevations in fecal calprotectin may be caused by proton pump inhibitors, non-steroid-anti-inflammatory-drugs, and intestinal impairments other than IBD (e.g., diverticulitis, celiac disease, infections, cancer).
