3 mLPlasmaSodium citrate (Lt. Blue)See noteAmbientFasting for at least 8 hours is required. Collect in 2 pre-warmed (37C), 3.5 mL, sodium citrate light blue top tubes. Immediately after collection, place tubes in heel warmer or 37°C (warm, not hot) water. Keep samples warm at 37C from collection until plasma separation. If possible, spin in a 37C centrifuge. Combine plasma from two tubes into one screw capped transport tube.

Special Info

Fasting for at least 8 hours is required. Proper collection and transport of specimen is critical to the outcome of the assay. Quantities less than 3 mL may affect the sensitivity of the assay. Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic specimens will be rejected. This test is New York state approved.

Clinical Info

This test is useful in evaluation of patients with vasculitis, macroglobulinemia, or multiple myeloma in whom symptoms occur with exposure to cold.
