       Refer to report and evaluation for atypical cells suspicious or diagnostic of malignancy. 

Special Info

Label the ThinPrep Pap vial with the patient's name and unique identifier. Collect the anal rectal cytology by using water, moistened Dacron swab or a cytobrush. The swab or brush should be inserted 5-6 cm into the anal canal. Firm lateral pressure should be applied to the swab or brush as it is slowly withdrawn from the anal canal. Care should be taken to ensure the transitional zone is sampled. Vigorously rotate the swab or brush into Preservcyt solution. HPV DNA, a molecular detection methodology can be performed on the anal rectal cytology sample submitted to the Cytology laboratory in CYTYC PreservCyt solution or from a separate HPV collection swab. REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW: Specimen must be accompanied by a Cytology requisition or electronic equivalent, giving patient's name, age, medical record number, attending physician, clinical diagnosis including patient's pertinent medication, time, date and source of specimen submitted.
