Special Info
Avoid hemolyzed samples. Avoid multiple freeze thaw cycles (3 is acceptable). The numeric value of the final result is not indicative of the amount of anti HSV 1 and 2 IgG antibody. Equivocal results should be followed up by obtaining a new sample for re-testing.
Clinical Info
Test is not diagnostic for Herpes simplex infection, it should be interpreted in the context of other laboratory findings and the total clinical presentation of the patient.
Clinical Limitation
This test is not cleared for the screening of blood or plasma donors. The performance of this assay has not been established for use in a pediatric population, neonates and immunocompromised patients. Samples collected too early in the course of infection may not have detectable levels of HSVG. Possible cross-reactivity with E.coli. Test cannot distinguish between recent an old infections. HSV serology cannot distinguish genital from non-genital infections.
