Clinical Info

A positive result is suggestive of current or recent infection or immunization. However, low levels of IgM antibodies may occasionally persist for greater than 12 months post-infection or immunization. IgM detection is useful in the following situations: 1. Evidence of infection can be obtained from only one acute phase specimen if the IgM results are positive. 2. The IgM test can also be used to differentiate between primary infection and re-exposure.
