Special Info

Patient preparation: discontinue coumadin therapy for at least 14 days prior to collection. 3.2% sodium citrate is the preferred anticoagulant recommended by CLSI.

Clinical Info

Detection of hypercoagulable states due to congenital or acquired deficiency of Protein C. This is an immunologic assay which detects the amount of Protein C in plasma, and should be not be used as an initial screen for Protein C deficiency. This assay should be used as a follow-up or confirmatory assay when functional protein C is decreased.
