Special Info
Use with FNA biopsy of thyroid nodules to diagnose benign or malignant non-medullary thyroid nodules. Unacceptable conditions: Specimen types other than those listed. Specimens containing EDTA. Viscous specimens. Indicate source on test request form. This test is New York DOH approved.
Clinical Info
Thyroglobulin (Tg) is measured by the Beckman Coulter Access method. Results obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably. The Tg result, regardless of concentration, should not be interpreted as absolute evidence for the presence or absence of papillary or follicular thyroid cancer. This test is FDA cleared but is not labeled for use with FNA fluid. Normal values are less than 10 ng/mL (Baloch ZW et al., CytoJournal 2008, 5:1).
