Special Info

Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of acute specimens. Label specimens plainly as 'acute' or 'convalescent.' Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) or plasma will be rejected. Contaminated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens are unacceptable. This test is New York DOH approved.

Clinical Info

Single positive antibody titers of greater than or equal to 1:80 may indicate past or current infection. Seroconversion or an increase in titers between acute and convalescent sera of at least fourfold is considered strong evidence of current or recent infection.
