       Refer to report and evaluation for atypical cells suspicious or diagnostic of malignancy. Interpretation by Pathologist. 

Special Info

Rapid stain preparations to assess adequacy can be requested by calling on-site Cytology Lab if applicable. Clinician collected specimen. Label, using a #2 pencil, the frosted end of glass slide with the patient's name and unique identifier. The specimen may be smeared at time of collection on glass slide(s) and immediately placed in 95% alcohol or sprayed with cytology spray fixative. Rinse fluid aspirates and/or remaining material in the needle/syringe into a CytoLyt solution container (available in Client Services or storeroom (107020)). Label container with two unique patient identifiers (not on lid) and cap tightly. REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW: Specimen must be accompanied by Cytology requisition giving patient's name, age, clinic number, clinician, clinical history, procedure location, specimen submitted, time and date.
