Clinical Info
HBeAg test should only be done in patients with positive HBsAg result and be used as an aid to determine the level of infectiousness and for monitoring chronic Hepatitis B activity over time as an important prognostic test. HBeAg may test negative in HBV-infected individuals with precore or basal core promoter mutations. Anti-HBe antibody test should be considered in conjunction with HBeAg test.
