Clinical Info
Birdshot retinochoroidopathy (BSCR) is a rare subtype of idiopathic posterior uveitis with distinct clinical characteristics that can lead to severe visual impairment. BSCR has the strongest documented HLA association for a human disease with > 95% of patients carrying HLA-A29. The frequency of HLA-A29 varies by ethnic group and could be up to 10 % in some US populations. Determination of HLA-A29 is of diagnostic significance in BSCR.
