Special Info

3.2% sodium citrate is the preferred anticoagulant recommended by CLSI. Test will not be performed if platelet count is less than 100,000/uL. Patient preparation: discontinue aspirin, phenylbutazone, phenothiazines, thienopyridines and glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors (if ordered to study intrinsic platelet dysfunction) and antihistamines for seven days prior to test. Sample must be accompanied by the completed Clinical History Form for Hemostasis and Thrombosis Evaluation.

Clinical Info

Evaluation of platelet function including Glanzmann's thrombasthenia, Bernard Soulier Syndrome, storage pool disorders and some types of von Willebrand's disease. This assay is not recommended for monitoring the inhibitory effect of aspirin or clopidogrel. For this purpose, please order the Aspirin/Clopidogrel Resistance panel.
