Special Info

Specimen must be drawn prior to surgery or at least > 2 days post surgery; Do not draw in recovery room; Sodium citrate (light blue) or oxalate/fluoride (gray) tubes are unacceptable. Whole blood is not acceptable. This test is New York DOH approved. Specimens should be collected 48 hours after the administration of succinylcholine.

Clinical Info

Screening test for patients who are hypersensitive to succinylcholine due to atypical pseudocholinesterase. Patients with acute or chronic liver disease, organophosphate poisoning, chronic renal disease, in late stages of pregnancy, or on estrogen therapy may have markedly decreased PChE activities.
