Laboratory Medicine
The Microbiology Section at Cleveland Clinic commits to the improvement and advancement of the diagnosis of infectious diseases.
Microbiology testing detects, characterizes, and determines how to manage infectious diseases. Infectious disease testing impacts the management of patients with acute conditions like urinary tract infections, sepsis, or meningitis and chronic conditions like cystic fibrosis or organ transplant recipients.
The microbiology laboratory uses a wide variety of technologies, ranging from microscopes to find pathogens in a sample to growing organisms in Petri dishes to using DNA techniques to detect important genes.
Results Reporting
Preliminary results will be called to clients if there is a positive finding for a significant culture or stain, which may include blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or normally sterile body fluid.
Preliminary and final results are included in the patient report. Results or interpretations of results may be obtained by contacting Client Services.
