Cleveland Clinic Respiratory Virus Surveillance Statistics
Cleveland Clinic performs more than 10,000 tests for respiratory viruses per week across Northeast Ohio.
The Respiratory Virus Positivity Rate Report tracks the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza, and other respiratory viruses, including adenovirus, seasonal coronaviruses, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza, and rhinovirus/enterovirus in the Northeast Ohio community.
Comments from the Medical Director:
This week (1/13/2024) in Northeast Ohio, we are seeing a sustained increase in positivity rates for Influenza A (13.6%), with plateauing for RSV (9.9%) and SARS-CoV-2 (9.7%). Predominant SARS-CoV-2 variants remain XEC (~38%) and KP.3.1.1 (~32%). MC.1, a subvariant of KP.3.1.1, is slowly increasing in prevalence, now representing ~14% of sequences. These observation are in line with state and national trends. Additionally, we are seeing an increase in seasonal coronavirus (particularly NL63 and OC43) circulation. Though data are not shown on the graphs below, test positivity for atypical bacterial causes of respiratory infection (Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Bordetella pertussis) are now downtrending.
